Shasha, Orisunbare alive with new road networks

Published by Tribune on Wed, 30 May 2012

Respite came to residents of Shasha and Orisunbare in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, as the state government inaugurated five roads in the place. The 13-kilometre network of roads, included the old Otta road, Association Avenue, Shasha-Orisunbare-Ejigbo Road with five other inner-city roads in Agodo Community. These included Niyi street, Owolabi street, Adeyinka street, Amudalatu street and Abanise street, with all projects completed within 10 months, according to the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Femi Hamzat.Speaking to Community News, a resident, Mr. Hassan Tilaka, popularly known as Baba Ibeji, said that the new roads had changed the community to a modern society. He said, 'There are three fast food restaurants that have established within this short period that the roads were constructed. We do not need to travel a long distance to get to our destination now with the new roads.'Tilaka, 57, told Community News that he was born in Shasha when it was a thick forest, but added that successive state governments had provided infrastructure to make the place lively.'This present administration of Mr. Babatunde Fashola has really done much for us. It gave to us nine roads within two years. We thank him so much,' he said.Declaring the roads opened, the state governor, Fashola said that over 600 youths of the community were engaged in various works during the construction, adding that the government would not relent until it was able to link every nook and cranny of Lagos together. He said, 'as far as I remain the governor, more developments will still come to this area but we will need residents' support. When we play our own part, we will like the residents to play their own role by ensuring that the drainage and the roads are not converted to dumpsite where you throw your garbage.'Fashola sought commitment from the residents, saying part of the community in Iba Area would soon be developed to a new town to accommodate more people. While commending the residents for their cooperation with the contractors that worked on the roads, the governor said that the government would soon fix the streets light. He also urged them not to encroach on government land, saying the present administration would not tolerate any act of illegality on its land resource.
