FRC to sanction erring agencies

THE fiscal Responsibility Commission will henceforth sanction any erring Ministry, Department, or Agency which run foul of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.This was part of the resolutions adopted at the recently- concluded management retreat held in Lafia, Nasarawa State.The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Jibril Yelwa said the Commission will now adopt 'reputation sanction' on any defaulting agency, adding that this entailed exposing the 'misdeeds' of such agency to the full glare of public publicity.'We shall adopt the principle or carrot ' and ' stick in the quest to enforce the provision of FRA, 2007. Those who oblige and follow strictly the fiscal responsibility regime will have no regret while those who flout the rules will have the stick measure applied to them through 'naming and shaming' before the Nigerian public', he added.Yelwa further said that the Commission will not only stop at exposing violators of the Act, it would, after thorough investigations, recommend such erring agency for prosecution by the Attorney-General of the Federation.Already, he added, four federal Agencies are currently being investigated by the Commission, adding that at the end of the investigation, any of the agencies found culpable would be recommended to the Attorney-General for prosecution.
