Fire kills 2 persons, destroys 10 trucks at Sagamu

Two persons were reportedly burnt to death while 10 trucks were also consumed in the inferno which occurred at the Sagamu axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday.The police in the state confirmed the incident but insisted that only one person was confirmed dead as of Thursday afternoon in an incident that is being blamed on the recklessness of a tanker driver.The Nigerian Tribune gathered that a truck laden with petrol was in the process of overtaking two other vehicles when the incident happened.The tanker was said to be heading towards Sagamu from Lagos.Reports available to the Ogun State police command indicated that the truck was ' on a high speed.'The reports further revealed that on getting to Sagamu, near Danko filling station, its tyres got burst while in the process of overtaking two vehicles.Nigerian Tribune learnt that as a result, petrol spilled on the road and the instant consequence was an explosion that consumed the three vehicles involved in the incident. Nine other trucks, some of which were parked by the roadside, also got burnt in the fire incident that created traffic gridlock.The image maker in charge of the state police command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, stated that police had began investigations into the incident.He added that only one person was confirmed dead while 10 trucks were burnt.
