Katsina govt spends N2bn on tertiary institutions

The Katsina State government has expended over N2 billion in the funding of various developmental projects and sponsorship of indigent students in tertiary institutions both within and outside the country.The state Special Adviser on Higher Education, Dr Shehu Garba Matazu, disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing newsmen on the achievements of the department in the last one year in Katsina.Matazu, while giving the breakdown, said government had spent N794.3 million at the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua University for the construction of an auditorium, male hostels, establishment of a centre for biotechnology genetic engineering and many more.He added that, N8.6 million was expended for the procurement of equipment for accreditation of Pre-NCE and NCE programmes in Technical Education as well as equipment to meet NBTE visitation requirements at the state polytechnic.To further ensure a favourable learning environment, he averred that the College of Legal and General Studies, Daura and Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsinma gulfed N28.4 million and N16.7 million respectively for projects.
