Anifowoshe wins MVP award, as new champion emerges in Channels Kids Cup

Published by Guardian on Fri, 01 Jun 2012

SULAIMON Anifowoshe showed a good example on the pitch and was outstanding in all the matches played by Holy Trinity Primary School during the season four of the Channels Kids Cup to earn the most valuable player (MVP) award at the championship. However, his goal in the final of the tourney against Central Primary School could not save his team from defeat, as they lost the final 2-1, and the trophy. According to the organisers of the tournament, Anifowoshe won the MVP award because he stood tall among his peers while his contribution to Holy Trinity Primary School aided the team to make it to the final. The finalists - Holy Trinity Primary School and Central Primary School - might be making their debut in the competition but they showed that they were teams to reckon with by ensuring that two-time champion, the University of Lagos Staff School, as well as Ago-Egba Primary School did not thwart their journey to the final. Also, several goals netted by Gideon Elighame of Ikeja-based Central Primary School earned him the highest goal scorer award as well as aided his school to the coveted trophy. For their efforts, Anifowoshe and Elighame got laptops and plaques. In the award categories, Hassan Amisu of Ago-Egba Primary School was voted best goalkeeper; Ejigbo-based Effortswill Primary School was adjudged the best behaved school while Ikorodu-based Totland Schools was the best supported team.Winner of the tourney, Central Primary School, got N200,000 while Holy Trinity went home with N100,000, and second runner-up, UNILAG Staff School, N50,000. Among the dignitaries at the final were Super Eagles' star, Obafemi Martins, erstwhile national team coach, Joe Erico, Nollywood legend, Patrick Doyle, and music artiste, Terry G.Others included the chairmen of Lagos and Delta Football Associations, Seyi Akinwunmi and Amaju Pinnick respectively, Principal Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Grassroots Sports Development, Wale Oladunjoye, Nigeria Football Federation spokesman, Ademola Olajire, as well as the chairmen of Apapa, Agege and Lagos Island local councils.
