Soldiers to escort corps members to polling centres

NATIONAL Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who are ad-hoc workers in the on-going elections in crisis-ridden areas have no cause to be afraid, as they would be escorted by soldiers to their respective duty posts.This was disclosed yesterday by the Director General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga, during an on-the-spot assessment of the condition of NYSC members in Kano.Tsiga, who addressed corps members displaced due to the violence in Kano over the outcome of the presidential polls, assured them that their safety would be guaranteed wherever they were.The NYSC boss stated that soldiers would escort corps members to and from their respective places of work tomorrow for the governorship polls across the country.Faulting news report that 20 corps members were killed in the recent crises in parts of the North, he remarked that to the best of his knowledge, there were no recorded casualties involving any youth corps member so far.He charged them to remain steadfast in their service to their fatherland even in the face of unprovoked attacks, provocation and sabotage by retrogressive elements in the country.Tsiga, who visited corps members at the Hotoro, Bukavu, Air Force and Janguza military and police barracks, pledged to ensure that their safety was guaranteed throughout their service year.
