NNPP backs Jonathan, PMP greets President

Published by Guardian on Tue, 26 Apr 2011

THE New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has thrown its weight behind President Goodluck Jonathans directive for a commission of inquiry into post-election riots in the northern parts of the country. Also, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Mandate Party (PMP), Dr. Batos Chikezie Nwadike, has congratulated Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for winning the April 16, 2011 election.Mr. Esanerovo Agbodo, director, Media and Communications, PMP Presidential Campaign, quoted Nwadike as officially greeting the winner in his home in Owerri, Imo State, while addressing his supporters who came to congratulate him for his good performance in the election even though he had opted to work for Jonathan.Addressing journalists in Lagos, NNPP National Chairman, Boniface Aniebonam, said there was need to go beyond the reasons of election violence and probe further into the remote causes of constant unrest in northern Nigeria.Perhaps, the President should also consider the idea of constituting a body of professionals from the North to study the situation and proffer solutions.People such as the Governor of CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Major Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (rtd), among others, should be considered to be among the team that would look into the matter, he said.Aniebonam also thanked Nigerians who voted for PMP during the elections, though the party entered an alliance with PDP to support Jonathan.
