Odo-Eran residents beg Fashola over constant flooding

An appeal has gone to the Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, to help address flooding confronting residents and traders at Odo- Eran area of Ogba, a suburd of Lagos.Some of the traders at a plank market situated in the area, lamented that the entire area was usually submerged whenever there was a downpour, thus inflicting untold hardship on the people.Apart from the traders, workers at a filling station located at the junction, told Community News that flooding usually sack them whenever there was downpour.The situation was also the same for workers of an eatery located within the premises of the filling station who lamented that they had been passing through hell since the commencement of the rainy season.'Whenever we experience heavy downpour, this place is always flooded and atimes it may take between two to three days before we get over the problem . The last downpour which happened on a Saturday was terrible as everywhere within the premises was flooded. We were stranded; nobody could go out or come for hours,' a staff of the eatery in the filling station,who simply identied herself as Kemi, told Community News.Some of the residents in the area explained that they had made series of representation to the state government over the problem facing the community, but nothing has been done.The situation was even compounded when the government started advertising that the area has benefited from Lagos State government efforts at constructing drainages to curb flooding, whereas nothing has been done in the area.'We were surprised to hear the campaign on the state owned television station that the government had fixed the problem facing the area. I just felt it was proper to call the attention of the state government to it,' Alhaji tunde Salami, a trader at the plank market, told Community News.Residents, motorists and traders in Ogba and its environs of Lagos have been facing acute problem of flooding . The commissioner of Environment recently described flooding being experienced in that area as 'flash flood.
