Kwara distributes relief materials to disaster victims

Victims of various disasters in recent time in different parts of Kwara State have been presented with cash and relief materials worth N20.5 million.Speaking with Community News, during the presentation in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the governor on Emergency and Relief Materials, Alhaji Musa Abdulahi, said the effort was part of the determination of the present government in the state to improve the lots of the underprivileged in the society. The special adviser, who said the disaster include fire, rainstorm, flood and building collapse, added that the incidents happened in different parts of the state.He also said that items distributed to victims included building materials such as roofing sheet, nails and cement.Alhaji Abdulahi also advised beneficiaries to use the money and materials presented to them judiciously and desist from activities that may trigger fire disaster.He also said that radio jingles had been on to advise people to shun all forms of illicit activities that may cause flood disaster in the state such as dumping of refuse along waterways, blockage of water channels, among others.Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, a victim of fire disaster at Tanke area of Ilorin, Alhaji Ahmed Ayinla, commended the state government for bringing smiles to faces of downtrodden masses. He said he never expected to be one of the beneficiaries and prayed for wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state.
