Tricycle operator charged with manslaughter

The police in Lagos recently arraigned a commercial tricycle operator in Ikorodu over alleged manslaughter.The accused, Bernard Omalaso, whose age and address were not given, is facing a three-count charge of manslaughter, reckless driving and driving without a licence at an Ikorodu Magistrates' Court.He, however, entered a not-guilty plea.The prosecutor, Insp. Fola Takunbe, said the accused allegedly drove a tricycle with registration no. AGL 199 QC in a dangerous manner and in the process killed one Alfred Otiserioluwa, 65.According to him, the accused also drove the tricycle without a driver's licence.Takunbe said the offences, which were committed at 9.15 p. m. on May 17 at Alogba Junction, Owode-Ibeshe in Ikorodu, contravened Sections 7, 27 and 28 of the Road Traffic Act, 2003.Magistrate Ademola Adesanya granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.The case has been adjourned to June 21.
