Envoy tasks govt agencies on cultural tourism

NIGERIAS Ambassador to France, Mr. Gordon Bristol, has stressed the need for government to put in place new policies that would ensure the promotion of cultural tourism.Bristol, who spoke against the backdrop of several Nigerian artifacts in museums across Europe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Paris that, these are priceless work of arts that constitute what makes Nigeria tick.He said it was necessary for policies to be put in place to ensure proper protection and marketing of art works, which he described as having a great economic value.According to him, as parts of efforts to retrieve the archival materials, two monoliths were returned to the country recently.Our Star beer, Egusi soup, dodo and Jollof rice are some local brands that will attract patronage if they are well packaged through a greater enterprise. We also need to pay attention to sanitation, among others, he said.Bristol, who said that France is a world class in lifestyle and cuisine, explained that, for Nigeria to penetrate the French market in cultural and food tourism, it must be well prepared, and standardise its products.He called on relevant agencies to create an enabling environment for investors to harness the potentialities in the tourism sector.
