Airtel completes multi-million naira school project

LEADING Telecommunications Services Provider, Airtel Nigeria has completed a multi-million naira, ultra modern primary school project in Ajeromi/Ifelodun Area of Ajegunle, Lagos State.The Ajegunle school project, which commenced in February, according to Airtel, is the pilot of the companys Adopt-a-School programme, offering an ultra-modern six classroom blocks with an office for the head teacher and water borehole with lavatory facilities for the boys and girls, as well as, male and female teachers.The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Rajan Swaroop, who spoke recently, after employees of Airtel Nigeria, under its Employee Volunteers Scheme, visited the school, said the completion of the project in record time underscores the companys commitment to providing the much-needed support for the improvement of the educational sector in the country, as well as, empowering children from poor homes with quality and best-in-class education.According to Airtel, over 30 of its employees, who are members of the Employee Volunteers Scheme, decked in red branded polo shirts, were at the project site, helping to clear, clean and prepare the school for final commissioning.Swaroop underlined the companys pledge towards giving back to the people of Nigeria through sustained support for education at the most important level, primary level, saying that education offers children the best opportunity in life to realise their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow.According to him, the companys Employee Volunteers Scheme is a testament to the fact that the Adopt-a-School initiative is a long-term commitment, revealing that Airtel will continue to provide and maintain the necessary support and care for all its adopted schools.Indeed, our employees under our Employee Volunteers Scheme will come in occasionally to support the teachers with teaching, mentoring and other academic and physical development programmes for the children, Swaroop said.Airtel Nigeria formally announced in February, this year, that it would adopt select primary schools across the federation as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme to assist the Nigerian government in transforming the lives of children from less privileged homes.Under the Adopt-a-School project, the company will not only build and refurbish schools but will also provide school uniforms, furniture, books, school bags for the children and specialised training, as well as, other incentive schemes for the teachers.The school will be formally commissioned and handed over to the Lagos State government shortly.
