Useni, Shagaya lose senatorial bid

ACN wins 19 Assembly seats in EdoMOVES by the two Langtang born ex-Army Generals, Lt.-Gen. Jeremiah Useni and Brig.-Gen. John Shagaya to clinch the Plateau South Senatorial seat has been dashed as they were defeated by their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Victor Lar.Useni contested on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) while Shagaya contested on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).Lar, having spent eight consecutive years as a member of the House of Representatives, is once again testing his political value, this time, at the Senate.Lar defeated the former ECOMOG Field Commander and currently serving senator, Shagaya.The Plateau North Senatorial Districts result has not been declared.However, six governorship results in six local councils have so far been officially declared showing that PDP is leading with five councils while the LP won in only a council.However, unofficial result showed that PDP won in Wase council while Kanam Council went to the LP.All the official results were declared by the local council returning officers in the presence of the Chief Returning Officers, Prof. Sonni Tyoden and INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Mr. Habu Zarma at the INECs office.Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday released the full results of the House of Assembly election in Edo State except in Igueben where a re-run in two polling units has been fixed for today due to reported violence.             The results signed by the Administrative Secretary of the Commission in Edo State, Gilbert Okolocha saw the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) winning 19 of the 24 seats.                 The party won the six seats in Edo North, the 10 in Edo South and one out of the six in Edo Central with that of Igueben, the sixth in Edo Central pending until after todays re-run.             The PDP clinched four seats in the state.Also, the wife of Chief Patrick Ekeji, the Director-General of National Sports Commission (NSC), Mrs. Ngozi Pat Ekeji has emerged winner of the Imo House of Assembly seat for Aboh Mbaise Constituency.Mrs. Ekeji who won on the platform of PDP polled over 20,000 votes to defeat her closest rival of the All ProgressiveGrand Alliance (APGA) who garnered a little over 9,000 votes.Speaking moments after being declared winner by the INEC, Mrs Ekeji thanked God for seeing her through, even as she thumped up the voters, especially women for turning out to vote for her.
