Taiwo Olanrewaju had a chat with youth corps member, Ajibola Abiola Ajimobi, after the commissioning of her Community Development Service projects by her father, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the governor of Oyo State. Her report.SHE is the third child of the first family in Oyo State. But that fact has not got into her head. Miss Ajibola Abiola Ajimobi is extremely humble and respectful.A Batch 'B' corps member with state code number OY/IIB/2465, Ajimobi, has executed some projects, to the tune of N30 million or thereabout. She said, 'It is my little contribution to the many needs in the society. I saw some needs and I met the ones I could. How I wish I could do more. But I believe that what I have done will open up other people's eyes to do more.'On what spurred her to embark on such gigantic projects, the Master degree holder in Law and Politics, who is also versed in Information Communication Technology (ICT), was part of the State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) ICT group which went from school to school training secondary school students. At Eleyele High School, Eleyele and Bishop Phillips' Academy, Iwo Road, the young lady discovered the dilapidated state of the students' classrooms and decided to offer a helping hand.According to Ajimobi, 'I didn't have an idea of what I wanted to do as my Community Development Service at the onset of the service year. But what I saw at Eleyele High School and Bishop Phillips' Academy gave me an idea of what I could do.'To me, and I believe basically to every student, learning should be fun and should be done in a conducive atmosphere. I don't think any child would 'learn' if while the teacher is teaching, rain is falling on him. Or if he is pressed, there is nowhere to ease himself.'Thus, in order to 'give back to the society as the NYSC encourages one to do' and live up to her upbringing, especially to her fathers' saying, 'You make a living by what you take, you make a life by what you give' and emulate her mothers' humane nature, 'I have very generous parents and I admire my mother's charity projects,' Ajibola decided to make lives by her projects. The irony of it all, however, is that not a penny of the young Ajimobi's went into the execution of the projects. She explained: 'I was made to understand that the corps member is supposed to seek for sponsorship from members of the community since it is a Community Development Project.'So, the young lady swung into action and a number of companies and individuals helped her to make her dream of building and equipping an ICT centre at the NYSC Secretariat; provision of a brand new bus to the NYSC Technocrat CD group; donation of 100 plastic chairs and mattresses to the orientation camp, Iseyin; building of a block of classrooms in Bishop Phillips' Academy, Iwo Road, Ibadan; renovation of a two-storey classroom block at Eleyele High School, Ibadan; construction of 6-room VIP toilet and provision of a water well at Eleyele High School, Ibadan come true.Ajibola was born 28 years ago to the Abiola Ajimobi family of Oja'Ba, Ibadan, Oyo State. She started her primary education at Bodija International School, Ibadan and attended The Vale College, Ibadan and Greensprings School, Lagos. She did her 'A' level at Stafford House College Canterbury, Kent England and her first degree at the University of Essex between 2002 and 2006. She was at the BPP Law School and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2007 to 2008.Ajibola, who hopes to be at the Nigeria Law School after her youth service, appreciates all her sponsors.
