Ex-Abiola Babes lifts MKO Memorial Cup

GODWIN Bazuaye scored the only goal as selected players of the defunct Abiola Babes Football Club of Abeokuta piped All Stars Football Club of Lagos 1-0 to win the maiden M.K.O Abiola Memorial Cup played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.The football match, organised in memory of Africa's first Pillar of Sports and winner of the annulled June 12 general election, was sponsored by the Lagos State Government. All Stars, without its talisman striker, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, lost to Abiola Babes, which was captained by ex-international and convener of the event, Tajudeen Disu.'It is a great privilege for us former players of Abiola Babes to honour the late M.K.O Abiola and I'm most delighted with the support of the Lagos State Government for this support to make the event a reality,' Disu said, promising that the competition would be an annual event.The club's former goalkeeper, Raymond King, also noted: 'The late Abiola stood for many things, including sports, and this occasion gave us a nostalgic feeling remembering the man who put his life down for the country and I want to thank Governor Fashola for supporting this competition.
