Child health experts endorse Pfizer's new advanced formula range

NUTRITIONISTS, paediatricians and gastroenterologists have endorsed the new nutritious milk supplement developed by Pfizer Nutrition to help build a strong nutrition foundation for children who are picky eaters.The experts spoke at the recent launch of Pfizer Nutrition's new advanced formula range Promise PE GOLD brand into the Nigerian market. The product launch was held in three Nigerian cities, Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.They say Promise PE GOLD has more than 40 ingredients, including 25 essential nutrients for picky eaters. 'It helps parents ensure that their children maintain a nutritionally complete diet when their feeding behaviours lead to inadequate food variety and diversity.'Head of the Peadiatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, Prof. Emmanuel Ekanem, in his remarks at the launch, highlighted the impact of nutrition deficiencies on long-term growth and development of growing children in Nigeria and pointed to the key 'at risk' nutrients like Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A and D, Iodine that are identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and by the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) ' where they indicated that children are most at risk for consuming less than the recommended micronutrients amounts per day.Professor of Pediatrics & Child Health, University of Benin, Prof. Abiodun, in his paper on the early nutritional programming, addressed the importance of early nutrition. He cautioned against excessive protein intake in the first two years of life, which could lead to accelerated weight gain and risk of adult obesity and its complications like diabetes mellitus and hypertension. He also highlighted the benefits of breastfeeding for long-term health.Professor of Nutrition from the University of Manila, Prof. Emily Flores, said during her talk at the launch that 25 to 35 per cent of growing children develop feeding challenges at some point during their early years. She argued that children who are picky eaters should be recognised and addressed immediately, because inadequate nutrients consumed in the early stages of childhood will have a long lasting effect.Medical Director ' Compliance and R&D, Pfizer Nutrition, Africa & Middle East, Dr. Mohamed Salah said, 'constant improvement and meeting with the changing nutritional needs of growing children is our hallmark. The new reformulated range provides the right balance and amount of nutrients according to the recent international recommendations and contains 100 per cent of the five key at risk nutrients. These high-quality nutrients are needed to support ideal health, growth and development for growing children.'We are also launching, the new Promise PE GOLD which is the result of our commitment to see the healthy advancement of the Nigerian child. Promise PE GOLD is a high quality nutritious milk supplement, specifically formulated to supplement the nutrients that picky eating children aged three to 10 years maybe lacking.
