Dr Ademola Adegbile is an embodiment of success, having gathered experience from virtually all sectors of the economy as a training consultant to many multinational companies and as an astute businessman. However, despite his achievements, his love for Mercedes Benz cars has remained unchanged. He spoke to Rotimi Ige on his experiences in life and on his love for the Mercedes Benz brand.I was born in Ibadan well over 50 years ago. I attended Ebenezer Primary School, Oke-Ado and Loyola Secondary School, Ibadan. After my secondary education, I worked for a while in a bank. I learnt a lot from that experience as a young man because I was earning good money as a bank clerk. That prompted my love for music because I could afford it. That time, I had all the vinyl records that were in vogue. After some years in the bank, I proceeded to the University of Lagos where I got my first degree. I then proceeded to the University of Ibadan where I bagged my Masters degree in Education (Guidance and Counselling). I did another Masters programme in Psychology before bagging a PhD also in Psychology.Work experienceI have worked both in the public and the private sectors; with the Oyo State government in different ministries as a youth development officer before proceeding to work in the private sector. After some time, I went into busi-ness, establishing a compa-ny that sold car batte-ries and also a training school. I also consulted for many multinational companies back then in the 90s like Coca Cola, training their staff and so on.I returned to public service in January 2000 and that is what I have been doing till date. Also, along the line, I found Christ and have served in various capacities in the R.C.C.G, and I still do so as a Pastor, though, not on salary basis.Marital lifeI am happily married and I am a grandfather today. I met my wife under funny circumstances.Incidentally, we both were dating but not particularly with marriage in mind. We both enjoyed each other's company and just wanted to have fun. But one day, we suddenly realised that we were wasting time and so I didn't even have to propose. I didn't have any dramatic proposal like going to the top of the Third Mainland Bridge or an exotic dinner. It was a casual affair.Love for Mercedes BenzI have always loved the brand because of its ruggedness and manly appeal. When I bought my first Benz over two decades ago, I used it for 10 years without any hassles and sold it for the same amount I bought it. As a matter of fact, the buyer was prostrating and grateful that he got a good deal (N150,000) not knowing that I got the best deal. I made up my mind then to stick by the brand and as it is, there's always a Benz in my garage any day. I first bought a Mercedes Benz 300, then Benz 230, then two Benz 190s (one was sold and one was stolen). After then I bought a Benz C class 240 and then a Benz ML 32O. I'm hoping to buy more Benz models as God blesses me.Call to pastoral serviceI got born again in December 1998. Before then, I was earning good money, business wise and in my public service. However, at one time, I began to notice that I had a higher calling. I decided to be an enabler that is, funding God's work. But God wanted me to give Him more attention. Every week I would travel to Lagos and when I attempted to travel back to Ibadan, my tires would always burst.I was buying tyres every weekend. 1998 was also the worst business year for me as I lost most of my clients. My battery selling business also crumbled when some creditors refused to pay up and my credit line at the West African Batteries, which were my suppliers, was cut. It was terrible. I also had instances where I had run-ins with robbers and law enforcement agents and when I mistakenly mentioned that I was a pastor, they would let me go. So when I was called one day by a friend that I would be replacing another pastor in one of the parishes, I knew I had no other choice but to heed God's call. I then told him to also convince my wife. To the glory of God, I have been Pastor (unpaid service) of different parishes for over a decade and I am glad to do God's work.Fashion sense.I love to look good and that is a fact. The way you dress determines the way you are addressed. I love bow ties and trendy things. I also love perfumes. I particularly favour Calvin Klein's Obsession. A man must look good and not necessarily expensive. It is not debatable.
