FFF Drums Support For Falcons, Dangles Gifts On Fans

Published by Guardian on Sat, 16 Jun 2012

TO ensure that Nigeria's Super Falcons get enough support for today's African Women Championship Qualifiers against Zimbabwe, Female Football Foundation (FFF) has promised to reward the first 500 fans at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.According to FFF Convener, Baron Tony-Uranta, the Falcons need to get adequate support to confirm their place in the next AWC to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea in November this year. The foundation believes the support of the fans would surely spur the Falcons to victory.Being the only African team to have won the AWC more than thrice, FFF expressed confidence in the Coach Kadiri Ikhana-led team to overrun the Southern Africa side.To generate interest among the fans, the first 500 fans will be given gifts by the foundation at the venue today.FFF was set up with the aim to generate interest in female football as well as rally support for all female national teams.Meanwhile, Coach Ikhana has called on Lagos fans to come out enmasse to support his wards in today's AWC qualifier against Zimbabwe.Falcons played before huge crowd at the Rufaro stadium, Harare and Ikhana believes that Lagos can command larger crowd to support the team.'I will like to urge all football fans in Lagos to come out and support the team on Saturday.'The game against Zimbabwe is a very crucial one and the fans can be the 12th-man if they give us the support we need to defeat them.'In Zimbabwe, the Rufaro stadium had about 20,000 fans and it was an amazing atmosphere.'Even though their team lost by 2-0 they still had the support of their fans and we pray to receive the same in Lagos.'Falcons won the first fixture 2-0 and are now set to seal the tie in the reversed fixture at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos.'Nigerians should expect victory from us.'The players are very fit and strong and they have been working hard in the past couple of months and I have confidence in them.'Zimbabwe are not weak opponent but I believe we have the players that can complete the job on Saturday.'All we need from Nigerians is their support, and the gates will be thrown open for free entry' said the former Enyimba manager.Victory for Falcons will ensure they defend their title in Equatorial Guinea in November 2012.
