Hospitality education: NCHI, Yabatech to set standards

In an effort to set a high standard for fresh catering and hotel management student preparing to enter into the labour market, Nigerian Hotel and Catering Institute (NHCI), has met with Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State, to boost capacity building in the hospitality industry.The meet between the duo was on the heel of fashioning a platform to making professionalism the key priority of the institutions department of catering and hotel management.According to the first Vice President of the catering institute, Mr. Ayodele Adebayo, It is certain that our hospitality industry is growing rapidly by the day and to see that we have capable hands to fill in different vacancies necessitate by the emergence of hotels in Nigeria.We want to state categorically that the hotel and catering sector play a paramount role in the hospitality industry and it is high time we started building a healthy environment by impacting the ethics and rudiment of the profession in the younger generation to meet global trend.Adebayo pledged the NHCI commitment at sustaining the a high profile professional ethics that will continue to examine and moderating the affairs of the hospitality industry vis-a-vis promoting and developing an uptrend standard for yaba college of technology.Reciprocating the gesture, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Kudirat Ladipo represented by the Deputy Rector, Academics, Mr. Bolaji Olasnni thanked the NHCI for extending the hand of friendship to the institution thus , describing the visit as timely.Ladipo explained that the meeting with the NHCI was prompt as it came at a time when Yaba College of Technology is undergoing transformation, adding that the institution expected the government to complete the upgrading process which is in progress.The Rector agreed that for a professional course of this standard, there was no way the issue of human capital development will be mentioned without reference to the Nigerian Hotel and Catering Institute and other professional institute in Nigeria.Your institute is paramount in the scheme of things when we speak of the hospitality industry and for our college of technology, we will say that we are in tone with your sensitivity at making professionalism a key factor in the catering business.Ladipo however agreed to invite the NHCI to assist in areas where the institution curriculum is lacking to encourage the student on best practice and to prepare them for the labour market.
