Lagos water regatta holds May 2

Following the ongoing election in Nigeria, the Lagos State water regatta scheduled for last week has been postponed to Monday, May 2, 2011 to enable tourists and visitors get the best of the second edition of the Black Heritage Festival (BHF).The marketing consultant for the 2011 Lagos water regatta and Chief Executive Officer, INFOGEM, Ayo Olumoko made the disclosure in chat with TTH, recently, that the event billed to host tourists and guests at the Five Cowrie Creek Channel stretches from Victorial Island/ Independence Bridge to Olateju Crescent Foreshore, Lekki Scheme 1, was deliberately moved to a later day to achieve a better outing.According to Olumoko, The water regatta will parade stakeholders in the marine business, however, clubs and associations to participate include Lagos Motor Boat Club, Ikoyi Lagos Yacht Club, Onikan Aquamarine Boat Club, Victoria Island, Beachland Boat Club, Apapa, Paradise Holiday Resort and Boat Club, Victoria Island and  Navy Boat Club, OjoFor the corporate organisations, Boats service operators and stakeholders in the Lagos marine business such as the Gani Tarzan Marine Services Limited, Texas Connection Ferries, Fiki Bal International Limited, Sea cat Ltd, City Link Limited, Prest Lunch Dinner Cruise, Metroferry Marine Services Ltd, National Association of Boat Transport Operators (NATBOWAT), are going out of their ways to add glamour to the event through different electrifying water base skills and stunt.In all honesty, the water regatta team led by the chairman, Chief Olusegun Jawando is working round the clock to see that every logistics to make the event a success are put in place. He has continued to add value to the activities to make it the mother of the BHF.The street bordering the 5 Cowrie Creeks Channel are Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Oyinkan Abayomi Street, Ikoyi, Maroko Foreshore, Olateju Crescent, and Lekki Scheme 1. In addition, float of 28 vessels and canoes with cultural troupes from 20 communities representing five divisions in Lagos State will entertain crowd at every view point along the route of the water regatta.Ten sailors from Lagos Yatch Club, Onikan, will sail round the waterways of Lagos Island while others will display on the Marina Creek, while Governor Babatunde Fashola will join a boat at LYC Jetty, Onikan, Lagos, for a tour of the regatta route.Part of the activities for the water regatta is 500 metres open swimming for male and female contestants, from Oyinkan Abayomi Street to Civic Centre.We also have the adult male 1,000  metre kayak from Tarzan Jetty to Civic Centre, the female 500 metres kayak from Falomo bridge to Civic Centre while the minors (male and female) 200 metres kayak for children will be from Oyinkan Abayomi Street to Civic Centre.For the jet skill and dragon display, Olumoko disclosed that at 5:00 pm of the same day, traditional boat regatta display, floats and canoes involving communities in the following  order: Lagos State Float, Olokun Campos Fanti, among others would hold.
