Elections peaceful in Kaduna, Bauchi

ELECTIONS inKaduna and Bauchistates were held peacefully on Thursday. The elections were postponed till Thursday in the states, following the violence that followed the presidential elections.The president had stated in an interview on Tuesday that if the violence continued, a state of emergency would be declared in the two states.As the gubernatorial and legislative elections ended in some parts of Kaduna State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday afternoon, began the collation of the results.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the exercise started almost immediately after the conduct of the polls at the various polling units.The results were being announced by the INEC presiding officers at each polling unit, after the various party agents had signed the result sheets.The results were also written and pasted on notice boards at the various voting centres for perusal by the electorate.The collation, however, was being done at some polling units in Magajin Gari, Unguwar Sarki, Gabasawa, Kawo, Tudun Wada, Badarawa and Unguwar Dosa in Kaduna North and South local government areas.Others were Sabon Tasha, Barnawa, Narayi, Mando and Rigachikun in Chikun and Igabi local government areas.Meanwhile, three INEC national commissioners and 10 national directors are monitoring the elections in the state.The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Halliru Tambuwal, told NAN in Kaduna, on Thursday, that five national directors also arrived in the town for the exercise.
