Leaders urged to empower youths for peace

Residents of Okene will continue to enjoy peace as long as the leaders in the area place emphasis on the empowerment of youths and doing the right things to help the community.Chairman of Okene local government area of Kogi state, Hon Yahaya Karaku, told the community news while lauding the matured manner the people of the area conducted themselves during the just concluded general elections.The area  known to be volatile, erups into violence mostly  during elections but the council chairman said that what the people, particularly, youths needed was empowerment.Karaku said that the empowerment programme of his administration and the contributions of some community leaders in the area had helped in maintaining the peace in the council.While appealing to the elected leaders in the just concluded election to provide good representation and leadership, the council chairman said that when this was done,  according to him, the peace being experienced in Okene, would be sustained.He said that the youth who are most vulnerable to violence had come to realise that development could not take place in a crisis ridden environment and assured that they had embraced peace but charged the leaders and philantropists in the community to assist in empowering the youths.Karaku also called on industrialists to come to the ancient town and set up buisnesses, particularly, the indigenes of the area who said that the environment was conducive for investment.
