20,000 benefit from Rotary's free medical services

Over 20,000 people have benefited from the free medical check -up and treatments organised by Rotarians for fighting AIDS.The exercise, Community News gathered, started in Lagos and also held in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Isara-Remo and Abeokuta, the state capital.At the flag- off of the programme in Abeokuta, held at the State Hospital, Ijaiye, the District Governor, Rotarian Kennedy Ejakpomoweh, called on Nigerians to develop the attitude of knowing their health status in order to detect diseases or ailment early and seek medical attention.He noted that many Nigerians died untimely because of their attitude to health issues.The project co-ordinator, Rotarians for fighting AIDS, Rotarian. Gbenga Olowu, said the areas focused on were test for HIV/AIDS, sugar level, sight related problems, malaria screening and treatment, diabetes and blood pressure, family counselling and distribution of mosquito treated nets.Rotarian Olowu said about N9 million worth of drugs were administered by experts, rotarians and the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria to people at no cost.Cross section of the beneficiaries agreed that knowing one's health status encouraged healthy living and prolonged life.
