DEVELOPING STORY: Damaturu attack under control - JTF

Sounds of gunfire and explosions are being reported from Damaturu in Yobe state.Though details of the attackers and their targets are still sketchy at this time, Daily Trust can report that some of the attacks are concentrated around Sabon Pegi around which the governor's residence is.A resident who was caught up in the violence told Daily Trust that he ran into a gang of young men trying to set fire to a primary school within the vicinity, Pompomari Primary School, and fled for his life thereafter. He could not not confirm if indeed they had set the school on fire.JTF commander, Col. Dahiru Abdulsalam however told Daily Trust that the primary school has not been burnt. He said that from information he had gathered, Boko Haram members were presently hiding out within the said primary school.He also said that his men have moved into the town and the situation has been brought under control. This has however not been independently verified.Many residents of the town are trapped outside the town and those within have taken refuge.Yobe state has suffered from at least two major attacks in the last seven months. In November 2011, about 70 people were killed and countless others injured in an attack claimed by the Boko Haram.
