Feedback on YouthSpeak

Published by Guardian on Wed, 20 Jun 2012

Dear Sir, I read your piece on poverty in America. Please get your facts right before you go to the press.I'm on GL 14 in a Federal Ministry. My take home is 110k a month.Thanks.Today's Mr. Ebenezer's poverty in America viz a viz Nigeria should be read by our presumptuous leaders, who hide under false democracy and religion of hypocrisy to enrich themselves. They merely pretend to be working hard for the wellbeing of impoverished Nigerian masses.Don OgokeThe article by Sylva Nze Ifedigbo yesterday (Fri May 4, 2012) in 'Rise Youth Speak' which focused on youth participation and engagement in the political/economic processes in Nigeria instead of the blame game is an intellectual master-piece and wake-up call for the Nigerian Youth that have remained docile and inactive. Please republish the article again. ThanksEKE.U.UBIJIExecutive Secretary, Nigerian Association of Small &Medium Enterprises (NASME)Good points you raised in the Youth Speak column of May 4. It is time for the Nigerian youths to gird their loins and set out on a redemption mission for the sake of their future. The solution lies in becoming path finders themselves and not perennial fault finders. If those in government have become insensitive to the cries of the ordinary man, the youths can provide the much needed succor by becoming change agents in all spheres of life. If only they could invest a fraction of the passion they show towards their La Liga or EPL clubsides on a 'New Nigeria Project' this country will be better for it sooner or later.Ola OlabiraLIBERO, Your article today challenged me, though I am a member of a forum in Ogwashi-Ukwu town in Delta State. Our aim is to hold all Government agencies accountable for their respective roles.Feyi Onyeaju KareemI want to say kudos to Rise Networks and Guardian for the successful launching of Youth Speak with Feyi Fawehinmi article on Tax.Feyi Onyeaju KareemCongratulations to Youth Speak, fantastic concept!YOUTH SPEAK article on Transformation Programme was quite informative and factual. I do hope Dr (Mrs.) Ngozi Iweala will read and make use of it. We need a National Development Plan not the present confusion that creates room for Ministers and Civil Servants to misappropriate resources of the nation blind through consultancies.+2348037881573 (Dr. Udendeh, Abuja)As a person I have affection for my own intelligence but I know Gabriel Zowam is more intelligent than I am. I appreciate his diagnosis and cure in economic transformation programme. I look forward to the 2nd edition.+2347032603469I feel the need to thank, commend, appreciate and encourage the facilitators of RISE NETWORKS, for making available such a refreshing wonderful platform as YOUTH SPEAKS. The article 'THE REAL WORLDS IS OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM' by Ferdinand Adimefe, published 6th June 2012- is a sincere much needed eye opener. I dare say it is the article of articles. If it is possible please forward my 'Thank you and God bless you for that life changing piece' to him. God bless RISE NETWORKS. I pray you rise and never die.+2348099832034I congratulate Favour B. Afolabi on UNILAG BRAND saga write up. Well done and God bless.+2348062169843Re: BRAND UNILAG; Also, please can you help me ask Mr. Favour Babatope Afolabi whether an institution that was created by law can be changed without first changing the law that created it before renaming it. And please can you help me ask Mr. Favour Babatope Afolabi whether in his village they do rechristening for a 50 year old'+2348062802296Thank you for today's piece on 'Brand UNILAG: a subset of Nigeria's largest history'. You spoke your mind. This development has revealed the pretence of the so-called South West democrats and progressives who rode on Abiola's sacrifice to political relevance. Now they are afraid to stand for the same Abiola whose struggle brought them to political reckoning. Shame on them. Kudos to people like you. Warm regards.+2348068672573 (Taiwo, Abuja)I wish to commend the management of RISE NETWORKS for floating this base through which young people can air their views on a host of national issues. At 44 years old, I am well over bracket just as the Federal Ministry of Finance ruled in its u-win promo.+2347084053598 (Charles U)The commander of 2 brigades in charge of the JTF, General Tukur said NNPC and its Joint Ventures are behind oil bunkering and theft in the Niger Delta, creating unemployment for the youths. FG should act on the report, thanks.+2347061356513 (Amos Calabar South, C.R.S)In our courts armed robbers are not ordinarily granted bail. Our law should be amended to prevent our corrupt officials from getting bail when charged to court. If this is done, defence lawyers won't b asking for adjournment but would rather concentrate in defending their clients. Judgments will be faster, let us save Nigeria.+2348035430032I wish to react to a piece in today's Guardian authored by Favour Babatope Afolabi. It fell short of calling Nigerians ingrates. This is an unfair assessment. MKO is known more for his philanthropy and politics than education. Let us not forget that MKO was one the tools used to truncate the great sage Papa Awo ambitionof becoming the president of Nigeria even when he knew he was the best candidate. (Sorry for the digression)UNILAG is the first University to be established by the Nigerian State. University of Ibadan was established by the colonialists; ABU was established by Ahmadu Bello as Northern Nigeria University NNU and was later acquired by the federal government. UNN was established by Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe in the then Eastern Nigeria and was acquired by the Federal Government, OAU was established by Papa Awo and like UNN and ABU the Federal Government took it over. So UNILAG as a brand should be conserved and protected. If the Federal Government genuinely wants to immortalize MKO then June 12 should be declared as National democracy day as against May 29 and Eagle square, Abuja or the National Assembly complex in Abuja should be named after him. After all, he is a symbol of democracy.Aidokha Asekome
