1,116 new lawyers emerge

FOR allegedly attempting to write the Bar Finals Examination for two re-sit students of the Nigerian Law School, two lawyers are to be charged to court and consequently stripped of their practising licence.The school's Director-General, Dr. Tahir Mamman, who disclosed this at the call to Bar ceremony for 1,116 new lawyers held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, explained that during the Bar final examination held May 5-9, 2012, two recently qualified lawyers connived with two re-sit students to write the examinations.'The school is preparing to petition the Disciplinary Committee of the Body of Benchers for their debar,' he stated. Out of the 1,873 candidates that sat for the examinations, 1,116 passed. None had first class, five passed with second class upper while 23 graduated with second class lower. The rest had pass.And confusion reigned at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, yesterday as post-UTME candidates who were already seated for the examination were asked to go home.The Guardian learnt that the development followed reports that the question papers for the test were allegedly leaked to some of the students by an unidentified worker of the university.Those affected by the cancellation are candidates in the faculties of social sciences and arts.
