Race begins for Miss Nigeria 2011

ACTIVITIES for the successful hosting of the 37th edition of the Miss Nigeria beauty contest has begun in earnest with a call for entries by the organisers.The annual event, which used to be the nations pride, witnessed a six-year hiatus before its revival last year by former beauty queen Mrs Adenike Oshinowo Soleye when reigning queen Miss Damilola Agbajo was crowned in Abuja.At a recently held media briefing to announce the commencement of the 2011 pageant Oshinowo-Soleye, who is the CEO of AOE Events and Entertainment Limited, organisers of the event, revealed that this years pageant would be done in conjunction with DAAR Communications as official media partner to the Miss Nigeria Competition.The 2011 Miss Nigeria Competition will once again infuse old world glamour with modern elegance. The competition will evoke a time when beauty had substance and grace, as well as, respectability, a time when privilege came with responsibility, she said.Director of Operations of the Miss Nigeria Competition, Didi Ocheja shed more light on the contest explaining that it is no longer a pageant, but a competition.Speaking on the reigning queen Didi said Federal Government made her Queen Ambassador in order to be a youth ambassador to younger Nigerians. She was recently named ambassador for the anti-malaria campaign of the Clinton Health Initiative and has represented Nigeria at home and abroad not at pageants but at international programmes to promote African cultural values.Also announcing the launch of a new relationship wit DAAR Communications the Executive Director, DAAR Media Services, Mrs Salomey Eferemo the essence of the partnership with the Miss Nigeria Organisation.She said, as Nigerians theres a need to celebrate ourselves and our youths. Miss Nigeria is not all about show-business, but is also meant to integrate our youths into a brand that promotes our values. For so long Western media has portrayed Africa as a dark continent, as if nothing good comes out of it, but DAAR is meant to promote African values and share the African experience to the rest of the world.Signing off as sole media partners of Miss Nigeria, the organisation owns the right to distribute it to the world. We also intend to bring values to our youths, she explained.Just like last year this years pageant will have no swimwear segment- the young ladies would be judged on their poise, elegance, intelligence, cultural values, as well as, beauty.Sale of forms would begin in June and zonal castings would commence in August in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin and Lagos respectively. In September the Miss Nigeria Reality Show would begin airing on terrestrial and cable channels and the grand finale would take place on September 24 in Lagos.Winner of the competition stands a chance of full educational scholarship in any higher institution anywhere in the world, a luxurious car, one-year salary, a one-year wardrobe from a Nigerian designer, among other gifts.
