NITP, ATOPCON plan new professional scale of fee

PROFESSIONAL town planners have begun moves to adopt a new scale of fee, which will improve the lot of practitioners.The proposed fees are being articulated by ' Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) ' if approved, will lay to rest several years of agitation by the association for better remuneration for town planning services in the country.ATOPCON President, Mr. Toyin Ayinde, who spoke at the 2012 annual general meeting of the association in Lagos, revealed that a committee has been set up by both bodies and the report of the joint NITP/ATOPCON committee is to be presented to the NITP National Council in Lokoja.Ayinde, who was represented by the Vice President, Mr. Moses Ogunleye said: 'The changing of structure of human settlements all over the world, the modern town planning practitioners, particularly consultants need to be continuously aware of new trends. Since settlements keep changing, our planning strategies must also be very anticipatory of progressive. After all, the cannon of town planning to ensure ultimate wealth in the future.'He said that the body has inaugurated new state branches in Oyo and Lagos, which will act as a major pedestal to strengthen the association and urged the branches to carry out various programmes in the area of training for member firms in their branches as a means of growing the practice in their local environment.Ayinde believed that 'with continues engagement of all stakeholders in matters of human settlement, we will achieve the goal of building sustainable communities throughout the federation.
