Insecurity: We have every right to invite Jonathan, service chiefs -Reps

The House of Representatives on Thursday insisted that it had every right to summon President Goodluck Jonathan and his security chiefs to appear before it at a closed door session to brief them on what the government was doing to tackle the security challenges threatening the unity of the country especially the Boko Haram menace.Those who are to appear alongside the president include, National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi; Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), Mr Ita Ekpeyong, the Chief of Army Staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ola Sa'ad Ibrahim and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Umar, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Abubakar Mohammed.The chairman House Committee, on Media and Public Affairs, Honourable Zakari Mohammed, while briefing newsmen at the National Assembly said, "I want to say clearly here that we have not, in anyway overstepped our bounds. We said it in our legislative agenda that we intend to interface with other arms of government to the benefit of Nigerians and this is just one of it."According to him, "remember, Mr. President at the wake of subsidy introduction had to invite us to the Villa, we had light lunch with him, 360 of us, including 109 senators. We were in the villa, nobody complained, we listened to him and told him our own piece of mind as far as the subsidy issue is concerned.
