GTB reaffirms commitment to school sports

Published by Guardian on Fri, 22 Jun 2012

AFTER the successful staging of the maiden Super Cup, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has reaffirmed commitment to school sports in the country.Speaking through its General Manager/Head, Communication and External Affairs, Lola Odedina, the financial institution said it was committed to helping revive sports in schools. Odedina made this pledge during the final of the Super Cup in Lagos last week, stating that they were impressed with the performance of the students throughout the competition.'The commitment of GTB to bring back the nostalgia associated with our secondary school developmental football and the opportunity to breed the feedstock for our national soccer teams are the crux of organising this competition.'We appreciate the enthusiasm and passion of our sports masters and principals of all the first generation secondary schools, private schools and Lagos State. Our facilitators, the Lagos State Ministries of Education and Sports have been outstanding towards the successful execution of the 2011/2012 championships and are the reason we have got this far in making our aspirations a reality.'She said further: 'Our aspiration towards greatness drives us to continually exceed the expectation of our services, which we believe should be a mantra for our leaders of tomorrow.'We immensely value the holistic development of our youth, as we believe that a wholesome mind requires a wholesome body to function optimally, hence our investment in programmes targeted at motivating our children towards success in whatever they do is paramount to us at GTB.'However, 'we must reiterate that this year's Tournament Ambassador's Programme for exceptional performance is scheduled for this month at Adeyemi Bero Hall with presentations by the former captain of the Super Eagles and current coach of the national team, Stephen Keshi.'Diary Farm Senior Secondary School beat Anwar Ul-Islam College to claim the maiden Super Cup title. Winners of the Lagos GTB Principal's Cup and Heritage Cup jostle for the Super Cup, which is meant to engender friendship among the participating schools.
