Dream team tackles NFF over unpaid bonuses

Published by Tribune on Sun, 24 Jun 2012

SEVERAL players of Nigeria's Olympic team have demanded for the balance payment of bonuses for beating Algeria in November. The team was paid $1,000-a-man for thrashing its Algerian counterparts 4-1 with a promise that the balance of $1,000 will be paid on return to Nigeria. However, they are yet to receive such payment several months later."As a player, I'm disappointed that more than six months after the tournament nobody is saying anything about our outstanding bonuses,' one of the players lamented.'I personally had it very rough to come and feature in the tournament in Morocco. I dared my club, had my salary deducted, only to return with empty promise.'We believe in the leadership of the NFF and so the pledge made in Morocco should be redeemed."Our winning bonus was not paid in full. We know we did not qualify but at least for the one we won, let them pay us now," added another player from the CAF U23 Championship, who features in the Nigeria Premier League.MTNFootball.com gathered that NFF announced a doubling of the team's win bonus from $1000 to $2000.However, the team lost their first two games. On the eve of the third group game against Algeria, the NFF president promised to hand the players the entire group stage bonus of $6000-a-man should they qualify.Unfortunately for the team, it won the game but failed to qualify. The players were then paid $1000, 50% of their winning bonus, with a promise to complete the balance in Nigeria after the players had threatened to reject the money.
