It has become necessary for corporate organisations and other well-meaning groups and individuals within and outside the country to come to the aid of educational institutions.Chief Davidson Oghenekevwode, member, Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, disclosed this at the formal commissioning ceremony of a computer block funded by the corporation at Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe Oghara, Delta State.According to him, the project was among the many projects being sponsored by the NDIC in various institutions of learning in Nigeria.The member said since 1995, the corporation had instituted the endowment fund and prize awards, made generous donations through the corporation's project-based funding scheme, a corporate social responsibility to providing assistance towards the enhancement of educational activities in moving the country forward on the path of social and economic development.According to Oghenekevwode, as part of the corporation's pursuance of its corporate social responsibility and effort of managing the stakeholders' expectation, its board approved a grant of N260 million in 2003 as part of its phased financing of projects in tertiary institutions in Nigeria to be disbursed among 25 selected institutions in the country.He said the corporation was currently in the third phase of financing projects in 14 selected tertiary institutions in Nigeria, just as the polytechnic was one of the institutions that benefited in the corporations project based funding scheme with a grant of N20 million, advising that the authorities of the institution work assiduously to sustain and improve upon the present achievement for the overall benefit of the polytechnic and the students.Earlier, Rector of the institution, Dr (Mrs) Clara Sogbaike, said the growth in the number of courses in the school generated increase in student population and the need for more infrastructure in the polytechnic, revealing that the school, which commenced academic activities in 2003 with three courses namely, Accountancy, Computer Science and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, has blossomed into eight National and seven Higher National Diploma courses in 2012.
