Korean art competition: Winners get prizes

AS part of activities marking the second year anniversary of the Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria, prizes were, recently, presented to winners of the third annual Korean Drawing Competition in Abuja. Featuring pupils of FCT Primary Schools, the contest asked participants to capture some aspects of Korea's tangible heritage. At the grand finale held at the Korean Cultural Centre, which has gradually become a resort for arts and cultural practitioners in Abuja, a total of 30 pupils received variety of prizes for their efforts during the competition in which over 40 schools in the FCT featured.The Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Choi Jung-Hyun who spoke at the award ceremony extolled the quality of works showcased by the children. 'Our embassy is more than committed to do morein strenghtening diplomatic ties betwen Korean and Nigeria, and cultural exchange is one way of achieving this. So, if only for the brilliance and show of good artistry by these young ones, we shall do more for this competition next time.'Little Ishak Ibrahim of LEA Primary School, Jikowyi emerged as the overall champion, walking away with a Samsung Flat screen television, a digital camera and a gold plaque while twenty nine other pupils also carted home assorted Samsung products as prizes for their efforts in the competiion.Speaking eralier at the award ceremony, Mrs. Uche Onwugbufor, the coordinator, cultural and creative arts department of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board revealed that a total of 329 enteries were received for the competition. 'We shall remain eternally greatful to the Korean Cultural Centre for sponsoring this competition as part of their desire to hunt, nurture and promote artistic talents and potentials of our pupils.'The outgoing Director of the Korean Cultural Centre and initiator of the project, Mr. Suh Jeong Sun said the successes recorded in previous editions of the competition is what has spurred the centre to continue to organise the yearly event. 'We shall continue to boost the cultural ties that exist between Korea, Nigeria and the rest of the African continent.
