Yakubu replaces Oniwon at NNPC

President Goodluck Jonathan has removed the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engineer Austen Oniwon and replaced him with Engineer Andrew Yakubu.A statement by the presidents' spokesman Reuben Abati said Jonathan has also approved the appointments of six other Group Executive Directors for the NNPC.The new GEDs are; Mr. Bernard O.N. Ottias Group Executive Director (Finance and Accounts), Engr. Abiye Membere as Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production), Dr. Peter S. Nmaduas Group Executive Director (Corporate Services), Engr. Anthony Ogbuigweas Group Executive Director (Refineries & Petrochemicals), Dr. Attahir B. Yusufas Group Executive Director (Commercial & Investments)and Dr. David Ige as Group Executive Director (Gas & Power).Yakubu graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1979 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He joined the NNPC in 1980. Positions he has held in the corporation include Managing Director of the Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company and Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production). Yakubu is an indigene of Kaduna State and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.Jonathan has also approved the appointment of Engr. Victor Briggs as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).The statement said the former GMD, Engr. Austen Oniwon is to proceed on retirement alongside Mr. Michael Arokodare (outgoing Group Executive Director (Finance and Accounts),Mr. Philip Chukwu, outgoing Group Executive Director (Refineries & Petrochemicals), and Engr. Billy Agha, outgoing Group Executive Director (Engineering & Technology).The Presidency said the changes were to 'further strengthen the ongoing reforms and transformation of the petroleum sector.
