REGARDED as one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class, Nissan Almera has formerly joined the highly competitive motoring space in Nigeria.Powered with a 1.5 litre engine, the new Almera also boast of either manual or automatic transmission.The new product was made available recently in Lagos for a test drive. The exercise which was conducted from Adeola Odekun, head office of Alliance Autos, to Eleko Beach, an outskirt of the metropolis gave motoring journalists a first hand feel of the new entrant into Nissan stable in Nigeria.The test drive conducted by Alliance Autos in conjunction with Sun Motors offered motoring journalists an opportunity to scrutinise all aspect of the new Almera.Speaking during an interactive session before the test drive, the Managing Director of Alliance Autos, Mr. Ian Middleton described the Almera as a global brand specially packaged to suit Nigeria's environment.He explained that the company's target is to sell not less than 3,000 units yearly, adding that Almera has a crucial role to play in Nigeria.According to him, Almera is already making tremendous impact in some jurisdictions especially in China and Indian.'The new Nissan Almera will enter the Nigerian market with just one engine option, modern 1.5 litre four-cylinder petrol featuring dual injection as well as variable timing working on both the intake and exhaust cycles to produce 73kw and 134Nm.With a kerb weight of just 1042kg to propel, these outputs translate into willing performance. Transmission options in the Almera are between a traditional 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic tailored for refinement and economy.With the new Almera, Nissan was not afraid to do things differently, to get rid of past limitations and create a car for the present. It is ruthlessly efficient, by being smartly engineered customised to be the needs of the times,' Middleton said.Speaking in the same vein, the General Manager in charge of Marketing atAlliance Autos, Mr. Gaurav Kaul, identified thenew Almeraas a B segment car withattributes of C segment cars in terms of size, safety features and comfort.He explained that with trunk capacity of 400 litres, the new Almera could takemore load than any car in its class.On his part, the General Manager, Sun Motors, Mr. Pankaj Arora described the new Almera as a smart and stylish car, which has proven Nissan's continuous effort to deliver quality and stylish car that gives value to all customers.In terms of safety, standard features include two airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), electronics managing braking for shortest stopping distance while maintaining full control in emergency situations.'The new Nissan Almera is an affordable yet stylish sedan designed to deliver on the requirements of the modern car buyer particularly in emerging markets.
