At Afac 2012, Cassava Medium Excites Kogi

PERMANENT Secretary of Kogi State Council for Arts and Culture,Alhaji Ahmed Oneta has commended 'a breakthrough in thework of art through the use of cassava flour' recorded by the arts council.Oneta saidthat the state succeeded in producing a work of art from the cassava flour.The work, carved out from cassava flour and on display at the just concluded African Arts and Craft Expo (AFAC) 2012, 'is a feat for the state,' Oneta noted, saying that it has never happened in the history of Nigeria.'We use this kind of expo to attractinternally generated revenue to the state government.'He said the annual expo was to expose the country's richness and cultural endowment to other countries of the world.Corroborating Oneta, Mr Abraham Akele, Director, Kogi State Liaison Office, Abuja, said that work of art could generate employment for Nigerian youths, while urging government to focus on it.According to him,so many young Nigerians are roaming the streets because they do not have anything to do, but from the Kogipavilion, I found out that there are so many things Nigerians can do, especially the educated ones.'A lot of artwork, artefacts, work of art are made by Nigerians from Kogi and if most of them go to showcase what they can do, you will find out that the social unrest, economic problem we have in this country will be reduced.
