Flood: Alaro residents thank Ajimobi over stream dredging

Published by Tribune on Mon, 02 Jul 2012

Residents of Alaro area of Sango in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State have expressed gratitude to the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, for dredging the Alaro stream ahead of this year's rainy season. The residents, in a statement made available to the Community News by landlords in the area, noted that had the stream not been expanded, the area could have been thrown into the annual confusion that accompanied rain in the last few years.Signed by Mr. Wahab Onatoye on behalf of other landlords, the statement said further that much as the people of the community craved further government presence in their area, 'it behoves on us as a community to express gratitude to His Excellency, the governor, for taking us into consideration and expanding this stream.'We all recall with sadness what happened on August 26 last year as a result of flood. Though, it was not peculiar to our area, we knew what we lost to the flood and we are not happy about it.'We were all waiting for this year's rainy season with apprehension, but we are grateful that that the government took that proactive measure before the rain began fully. We just woke up one day and saw earthmoving equipment here. And they have expanded the stream. There is no doubt that the stream will not overflow its bank when the kind of rain that fell last year falls.'This is why we, on behalf of all residents of Alaro/Ayegbami community, are expressing gratitude to Governor Ajimobi for counting our community worthy of this benefit. We make bold to say that this government suprised us pleasantly.'Onatoye added that the community would be ready to support the Ajimobi-led government in whatever programme or project it intends to carry out within the community.
