THE African business wards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London named Afren Plc Chairman Egbert Imomoh a non-executive as business leader of the year in recognition of his leadership skills and contribution to economic development.Under his leadership, Afren has been an early mover in forging strong indigenous partnerships and accessing and monetising some of the many discovered but undeveloped fields that reside in the portfolio's of the major international oil companies (IOCs).Imomoh successfully led the growth of Afren's Nigerian asset base, established partnerships with indigenous companies and realised first oil at the Okoro, Setu and Ebok projects. He was also influential in the establishment of First Hydrocarbon Nigeria (FHN), an indigenous oil and gas company owned by a consortium of Nigerian businesses, which takes Afren's partnership model to the next level through a direct equity investment in an indigenous company. The annual awards are organised by African Business magazine and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) to celebrate excellence and best practice in African business and recognise those who have driven Africa's rapidly transforming economy.Prior to joining Afren, Imomoh fulfilled a series of leadership roles at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), one of the Shell group's largest operating companies where Imomoh was responsible for operating a joint venture that produced approximately one million barrels of oil per day.
