WASSU unfolds planfor school games

IN its initiative to discover and nurture young athletes to stardom, the West Africa School Sports Union (WASSU) has unveiled its plans for the forthcoming games tagged WASSUG 2011.The Games is slated for September 11 and 28 at various centres in Lagos State.The President of the Union, Dr Thomas Adeleke Olaiya made this known on Friday, at a press conference held in Lagos to herald the maiden edition of the competition.According to him, this years edition of the Games is limited to 12 events which includes football, handball, basketball, volleyball, athletics, table tennis, tennis, judo, swimming, gymnastics, wrestling and badminton. He added that primary and secondary school pupils and students will vie for honours at the Games.Olaiya, who was the immediate past president of the National School Sport Federation (NSSF), also informed that about 16 countries in the West African sub- region and Mauritius have signified their readiness to be part of the fiesta.
