An Abuja Magistrates Court has  sentenced three tenants, Aliyu Aliru, James Doma, and Oyebuchi Odili, to two months imprisonment each for cutting off the leg of their landlord. Magistrate Musa Jobbo sentenced the convicts to one month imprisonment each for public disturbance and one month each for causing grievous harm to their victim.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reported that they were not given any option of fine for the offences, which they admitted committing.Police prosecutor, Rinmak Kefas had told the court that the convicts were arrested on April 23 by the police in Utako District, Abuja, when they attacked David, the landlord, with cutlasses and knives.He said that as a result of the fight, the convicts cut off Davids leg and that the victim was currently receiving treatment at Maitama General Hospital, Abuja.Kefas said the fight caused chaos at Utako ``as people began to run helter-skelter, and shop owners closed their shops, thinking that there was a riot.He said that one of the convicts confessed that they attacked the landlord to punish him for taking them to court where they were remanded in prison custody.``The convicts said the landlord had always complained about their lifestyle and had threatened to send them out of his house.``They also said the fight started as a result of a heated argument they had with the landlord after asking them to pay their house rent, Kefas said.In another development, an Abuja Magistrates Court has sentenced two housewives, Julian Nneze and Augustina Onyia, to three months and six months imprisonment, respectively for fighting.Magistrate Chinyere Nwacheonwu sentenced the two after they pleaded guilty to the one-count charge.Police Prosecutor Francis Udofia had earlier told the court that the convicts on April 25 behind Alpha Clinic, Karu Village in the FCT, engaged themselves in a fight.Udofia said the convicts, who were neighbours, had a little disagreement and that instead of resolving the matter amicably, engaged themselves in a fight, thereby disturbing public peace.He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code.The Magistrate, however, gave Nneze an option to pay N4,000 fine, and Onyia, N8,000 fine.She also ordered the two convicts to enter a bond to maintain the peace.
