Aliyu chides perpetrators of post-election violence

Niger State governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, on Sunday, chided those who perpetrated the last post-presidential election riots in the northern parts of the country, describing them as mypoic and unpatriotic people.While addressing this years Workers Day rally at the old 123 battalion field in Minna, Aliyu said that the rioters felt that victory for their principal in their small localities could translate to victory across the whole of Nigeria.Aliyu reminded the protesters that what happened in any part of the country could not be used to represent the whole nation, adding that Nigerians should learn to live beyond ethnic, religious and regional attachments and also appreciate the nations diversity.It is important that when we look at issues, we look at it in relation to the whole nation. In Niger State, it is important that whenever we talk, we remember that we have a population of four million people and each of them has rights that should be protected.Aliyu said he stressed the issue becausewhat happened after the presidential election when many of us are so myopic that we think our village is Nigeria. No. We are a part and never can a part be a whole. Your village is not Nigeria; your village is a part of Nigeria. So if somebody wins or loses election in your village, that does not mean he has lost election in the country.
