Osun communities advised on clean environment

As this years rainyseason is aboutto start, community leaders in Osun State have been enjoined to embark on the sensitisation of their residents in order to prevent flooding in their respective areas.The State Co-ordinator, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mr.Olanrewaju Rufus Anjorin, gave the advice during a meeting with NESREA GREEN CORPS -NGC, in which community leaders accross the state participated at the Indurstrial Development Centre, IDC, Osogbo.According to Anjorin, it is now time for every residents in the state to join hands with NESREA in combating environmental problems facing various communities in the state.Leaders of every community in the state, must now wake up and educate their subjects on the need for them to properly dispose of their waste. They must not dump the waste inside the stream during downpour, It is dangerous for our environment as it may block the roads, drainage and the culverts as well,  and this may lead to flooding, Anjorin said.The NESREA boss in the state further admonished residents of every community in the state to take adequate care of their environment, saying this would stall the occurence of flood disaster that occurred last year at Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Olorunda and Osogbo local government areas  which rendered some people homeless.Anjorin, who commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola  for promoting a  good environment in the state noted that NESREA was always on ground to ensure safety, clean, healthy and condusive environment for the people of the state.Speaking on the NESREA GREEN CORPS, Anjorin said the group was to support the present administration in the state in its bid to have clean and healthy environment.He, however, urged members of the newly inaugurated NGC to see themselves as a volunteer group, ready to help the citizens of the state to solve their environmental problems.
