Ogun woos communities on health facilities

Published by Tribune on Tue, 03 Jul 2012

The Ogun State government has appealed to the people in various communities across the state to avail themselves the opportunity of receiving qualitative health in all designated Primary Health Centres around them. The Director, Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Kafayat Lawal, made the appeal during a sensitisation meeting with the Community Development Committee on health facilities supported by UNFPA in the state.Dr Lawal expressed displeasure over low patronage at the primary health centres, specifically on maternal health services such as ante and post natal care, delivery and family planning. She added that the development had contributed to high rate of maternal and child mortality.Lawal explained that there had been enormous investment by the state government and its health partners on the need to improve all these facilities, lamenting that there had been a gap between the facilities and community members.Dr. Lawal admonished various communities to take ownership of the primary health care centres for sustainability and inculcate the habit of maintenance culture on projects and facilities provided by government. She reiterated the state government's commitment to the recruitment of more medical and health personnel where necessary for efficient health care delivery. In a related development, the state government has urged its citizenry to embrace Community-Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS) for improved health care delivery in the state.A consultant on Health Insurance in the state, Dr Omobosola Egbeoluwa, made the call during a sensitisation meeting with representatives of Community Dvelopment Associations (CDAs) in Ogijo and Ijebu-Ode areas of the state.Dr Egbeoluwa noted that widespread participation in the scheme would enhance the present administration's determination and commitment to free healthcare for pregnant women, children under five years as well as affordable healthcare delivery for the entire public.
