NAMA spends N200m on navigational aid yearly

THE Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on Thursday said that it spent about N200 million annually on the calibration of navigational aid at the 22 airports across the country.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the calibration of navigational aid is to ascertain the level of accuracy of NAMA equipment at the airport.NAMA Managing Director, Ibrahim Auyo told newsmen in Lagos that the calibration of the navigational aid was to enhance the safety of the nations airspace.According to the NAMA boss, the project, which is being handled by ASECNA, a Dakar-based calibration firm, was flagged off at the Port Harcourt International Airport.``The calibration exercise would assist the agency in putting all the navigational aid in proper shape at these airports and en route stations, Auyo said.Auyo disclosed that the equipment to be calibrated included the recently commissioned secondary and primary radar systems at Kano and Port Harcourt International Airports, as well as, the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) relay stations in Obubura, Cross River.Other navigational aid scheduled for calibration are the Conventional Omni-Directional Radio Frequency (CVOR), Instrument Landing System (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and Very High Omni-Directional Radio Frequency (VOR).The NAMA boss appealed to airlines to support the agency in its safety drive by paying up the outstanding debt owned the agency
