Tender calls for LAMATA new head office complex

PLANS to kick-start the proposed ultra-modern new head office complex for the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) may have gathered momentum, as tenders call seeking to engage professionals has been put up for stakeholders within the building industry.The proposed tender calls are meant for consultancy services for the construction supervision of the Proposed LAMATA Corporate Headquarter building.The Guardian learnt the building would be sited within the precinct of Ikeja Central Business District (CBD), specifically near the Elephant House, Agidingbi.According to the tender by the agencys management, which classified the project under Consultancy Services for Supervision of the Proposed LAMATA Head Office Construction it had concluded plans to engage professionals towards the delivery of the project, filed under the Federal Government Tenders in Nigeria (FGTN), code named, titled IDA Credit No. 4767-UNI.The request for expressions of interest, according to LAMATA, follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project Titled NG Nigeria- LUTP-II (FY10) that appeared in the Market Publication of July 16, 2010, stated that, the Lagos State Government through the Federal Republic of Nigeria has received a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Lagos Urban Transport Project (LUTP) and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this project to cover eligible payments under the contract for the following consultancy services for Construction Supervision of the Proposed LAMATA Corporate Headquarters Building.Stating the main objectives of this study, the authority noted that the purpose of the consultancy services for supervision of the Proposed LAMATA Building Head Office Construction is to ensure that high quality construction is achieved and to ensure that all work is carried out in full compliance with the architectural and engineering design, technical specification and other contract documents and to demonstrate the efficacy of contract supervision by independent external agencies experienced in this field of work.Based on this reality, LAMATA has now invited eligible consulting firms to express interest in providing the above services, with the proviso that interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.).For each project performed, each consultant shall provide the name and contact address of the client (office and e-mail address, and telephone number), date(s) of execution, name(s) of lead and associate firms, contract amount and financing sources. Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications. Where firms are   associating, the submission must include verifiable evidence of association from all the parties involved.A consultant will be selected in accordance with the World Bank Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultant by the World Bunk Borrowers, January 1997, (Revised September 1997, January 1999, May 2002, May 2004, October 2006 and May 2010.Sources disclosed that the new building would be designed to accommodate the facilities that would facilitate effective operations and activities of the organisation.Although the details for the need to have a new building were sketchy last week, but it was gathered that most of the activities of the organisation would be directed and controlled from the proposed headquarters, especially now that additional responsibilities would be added to the existing one that is essentially, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).With the proposed increase in the BRT scheme, the proposed light rail and water transportation projects that would take place any moment from now, the organisations management is planning proactively to ensure the success and sustenance of its activities, said an official of LAMATA, who declined to be mentioned because she was not authorised to make official comment on the issue.Besides, it was gathered that the new building would be fitted with modern technology, essentially with electronic devices and communication gadgets to ensure proper monitoring and control of these transportation systems, be it the buses, the light rails or the ships. This is to ensure safety of the passengers, the crews, the buses and the light rails, just as it is in aviation industry.
