Bauchi Speaker loses re-election bid, Yuguda seeks partnership

SPEAKER of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Faggo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lost his re-election bid to Auwal Hassan of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).The results indicate that out of the 31 constituencies in the state, election was conducted in only 27, with PDP winning 22 seats and CPC getting five seats. Election in the remaining four will be conducted on May 5, as the electoral body had earlier cancelled the polls in Ningi and Misau local councils due to alleged irregularities.PDP won in Pali, Duguri/ Gwana, Kirfi, Zungur/ Galambi, Dass, Lere/Bula, Bogoro, Warji, Dambam/Dagauda/Jalam, Darazo, Sade, Ganjuwa East, Ganjuwa West, Katagum, Sakwa, Jamaare, Itas Gadau, Disina, Giade, Madara/Chinade, Udubo and Gamawa state constituencies.CPC won in Azare, Shira, Toro/Jamaa, Bauchi and Lame.The chief returning officer, Professor Mohammed Hamisu Mohammed, disclosed cancellation of elections in 500 polling units in the state while announcing the results of the governorship election, saying the affected areas cut across the state.Hamisu, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, stated that the electoral officers took the decision because of complains they received from different political parties.He said the result of the polling units cancelled didnt affect the conduct of the gubernatorial election.Earlier, Governor Isa Yuguda, who won the gubernatorial election, had commended his opponents for what he described as their impressive performance at the polls.In his acceptance speech at the weekend in Bauchi, Yuguda extended to the governorship candidates, the hand of partnership, imploring them to join his crusade to move the state forward.He urged his opponents to accept the outcome of the elections in the spirit of good sportsmanship and see the verdict as victory to all of them for having a common goal of serving the people.We should bury our political differences and team up to work towards the social harmony, economic prosperity and political stability and development of Bauchi State, he said.
