Oghara, Sapele communities decry lack of govt presence

Ahead of the forth-coming local government election in Delta State, residents in Oghara and Sapele communities have decried the lack of government presence in their areas.The residents, who spoke through their various spokespersons, said in Oghara that they had not enjoyed dividends of democracy since the inception Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan's administration.The Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Erhiekevwe Ododo, said the major challenge facing his domain was the lack of infrastructure, especially roads.Ododo made this known during a sensitisation and advocacy tour/town hall meeting to the area by Chief Fred Majemite, the Political Adviser to the governor.He lamented that the only link road to the kingdom and a cottage hospital were abandoned.He said that the kingdom, noted for its agriculture, had never benefited from fertiliser distribution by the government.He said that three years into his coronation as the monarch of the kingdom, the government was yet to formaly present him with his staff of office at a formal coronation ceremony.Similarly, Chief Moses Ogodo, President, Sapele and Okpe Communities in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta, decried government negligence of the area since 2007.Ogodo said that flood had virtually taken over the locality, adding that the roads were bad and had not been rehabilitated.He said that the uncompleted stadium in Sapele had been abandoned, adding that the town was without any market.The youth leader in Sapele, Mr Felix Obodowan, also drew government's attention to lack of empowerment for the youths either through the state agricultural programme or the Delta micro-credit programme.He appealed to the government to complete all abandoned projects in the area.Earlier, the Political Adviser, Chief Fred Majemite, said the advocacy tour and town hall meeting were aimed at taking stock of what the government had done and what it had not done and what the people needed.
