Bauchi spends N85m on animal care, others

THE Bauchi State government has expended N85 million on the 2011/2012 livestock vaccination, feeds production, spray, diseases control, artificial insemination and grazing reserves.The Commissioner for Animal Resources and Nomadic Resettlement Abdulkadir Ibrahim told reporters yesterday in Bauchi livestock had been a major source of revenue for the state.He said whenever the animals were affected by diseases, the result had been huge economic loss to the state.Ibrahim said some of the diseases vaccinated against in the 20 local councils of the state were the contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) in cattle, peste des petit ruminants in sheep and goats, Newcastle disease of chicken and infectious basal disease also in chickens.
