Irawo community denies appointing new Ajoriwin

Published by Tribune on Fri, 06 Jul 2012

Irawo Parapo community in Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, has dissociated itself from the purported filling of the vacant stool of Ajoriwin of Irawoland by Prince Musiliu Ademola Olalere. In a letter to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, a copy of which was made available to the Community News, the community said while it was aware that the process of filling the stool had commenced, it had yet to be concluded by the kingmakers. The letter signed by Messrs Elkanah Oparinde and Ibrahim Titilola, chairman and secretary of the community respectively, reads in part, 'We the entire members of Irawo Parapo Community wish to notify your Imperial Majesty of the strange development that emerged during the process of filling the vacant stool of Ajoriwin of Irawoland. 'All of a sudden, on 27th June, 2012, Prince Musiliu Ademola Olalere, one of the contestants declared himself over the Oke-Ogun 96.3 FM Radio as the Ajoriwin of Irawoland.'The community said it became necessary for it to issue the statement because Prince Olalere mentioned it on radio that he had the backing of the community to make the declaration. The community in the letter to the Alaafin also stated that, 'What we know is that the process of filling the vacant stool of Ajoriwin of Irawoland is still on and yet to be completed by the Irawo kingmakers. We are of the view that the sudden declaration may destabilise the peace of Irawo Community.'The community, therefore, called on the Alaafin to take necessary security measure to call Prince Olalere to order in order to allow peace in the town.It also called on Oyo State government as well as the state police command to step into the matter to avert what could turn out to be communal unrest.
