Man stabs stepbrother to death in Lafia

Published by Tribune on Tue, 03 May 2011

A 21-year old man, Ubangari Hussaini, was on Saturday, suspected to have stabbed his step- brother, Abdullahi Hussaini, to death in Lafia. An eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia that the duo had misunderstanding on some domestic issues. The witness, who pleaded anonymity, said that, at  Kofar Kaura Quarters in Lafia, a resident, Aishatu Hussaini, raised the alarm, shouting publicly about the incident.Malam Muhammadu Kusa, 60, a Chief Security Officer with  Lafia Local Government, who is the father of Abdullahi and Ubangari, said the quarrel between his sons began over a local snack, madidi. He told NAN that trouble started when some pieces of the snack were kept in front of the suspects room which he had always warned the family members against.Kusa said that when Ubangari returned and found that the local snack was still placed in  front of his room, he threatened to beat his step-mother.He said the threat prompted Abdullahi to react that Ubangari should not address his mother in such manner.According to him, the argument became hotter while Ubangari allegedly brought out a knife  and stabbed Abdullahi.Kusa said when Ubangari saw the situation, he fled the house, leaving his brother in a pool of blood. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Richard Akoji, said the case was yet to be reported. He said the police would investigate and address the press thereafter, though Kusa said he had reported the matter to the A Division of the Nigeria Police in Lafia.
